With “A Book for Jordan,” a real story of a soldier sent to Iraq who keeps a journal of love and wisdom for his baby son (due in theatres this December), the action star takes on his first romantic drama. watch the trailer below
“A Journal for Jordan,” directed by Denzel Washington and based on the popular memoir of Pulitzer Prize-winning former journalist Dana Canedy about her late companion, Sgt. Charles Monroe King gets an exclusive first look at the trailer and pictures.
Jordan believes that taking a break from action flicks like “Without Remorse” and the “Creed” trilogy “was a nice change of pace.” “I’ve played a lot of physical parts because that’s what I’ve always wanted to do. I’m 34, and I’ve spent the last seven years physically maturing into your sweet spot.” He claims, though, that he was willing to try anything more open. “It seemed safe to dive into this, to get to know these individuals, and to be vulnerable in that manner.”
It helped that Washington, who most recently directed the Oscar nominee “Fences,” was behind the camera, providing “a master lesson in character development and directing,” according to the actor.
Jordan, who is also a producer on the picture, adds, “Everyone wants to work with him, and he’s a very picky man.” “It was a tremendous thing for me that he wanted to work with me.”
Canedy, a publishing executive at Simon & Schuster with a 16-year-old son, told the movie crew about her experiences, guiding “us in the correct direction of what they were going through at these periods,” Jordan recalls. “Without (the family’s) consent and sign-off on everything, the narrative would not be occurring.”
