A new look at Ethan Hawke from The Black Phone is revealed. The Black Phone is based on the 2004 short story of the same name written by Joe Hill, the son of legendary horror author Stephen King. The film will hit theaters on June 24, 2022.
The film stars Mason Thames as an abducted child who can communicate with the past victims of his kidnapper, portrayed by Ethan Hawke. The synopsis follows “In 1978, five children go missing in a suburban Colorado town. Young baseball pitcher Finney Shaw becomes the sixth when a serial killer dubbed the Grabber knocks him unconscious and throws him in a van. Finney wakes up in a soundproof basement with a disconnected phone. He quickly learns of the phone’s ability to transmit the voices of the Grabber’s previous victims, who want to help him escape. Meanwhile, Finney’s sister Gwen experiences psychic dreams that send her on a quest to find him.”
During the film’s world premiere at Fantastic Fest in Sep 2021, the film already grabbed horror fans and received positive reviews from critics.
The Black Phone is directed by Scott Derrickson, who previously directed MCU’s Doctor Strange, he co-writes the script with C. Robert Cargill, a frequent collaborator who also penned Sinister and Doctor Strange.
The film also stars Madeleine McGraw (Pacific Rim: Uprising), Jeremy Davies (Lost), James Ransone (IT: Chapter 2), and E. Roger Mitchell (Outer Banks).
The Black Phone will hit theaters on June 24.
