A new first look trailer for Nightmare Alley, Guillermo del Toro could have created anything after winning Oscar for Best Picture and Best Director for The Shape of Water. Nightmare Alley, a noir thriller set at a carnival with the director’s most star-studded ensemble ever, was his choice. watch the trailer below.
Bradley Cooper, Willem Dafoe, Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Toni Collette, Richard Jenkins, Ron Perlman, David Strathairn, and others star in what del Toro insists is not a supernatural picture, despite the trailer and title implying otherwise. Del Toro previously told Vanity Fair, “This has no mystical aspect.” “It’s absolutely grounded in reality. There’s nothing amazing about it.
The film is based on William Lindsay Gresham’s 1946 novel, which was notably adapted into another film in 1947. For this adaptation, Del Toro (together with co-writer Kim Morgan) drew on the novel rather than the film, and was more interested in the distinct noir universe it is situated in than the whole, intricate plot. “I wanted to recreate the novel’s environment, which is harsh but somehow beautiful. It has a weird, magical, and mythological appeal. “That idea piqued my interest,” he added..”
Nightmare Alley will be released in theatres only on December 17.
