A ‘planetary blockbuster’ is in talks to premiere at Cannes in July

A 'planetary blockbuster'

A ‘planetary blockbuster’ – Fremaux outlined the major changes that will take place at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Aside from the date shift from April to July, the festival will take advantage of the summer months by spreading out the screenings to more outdoor activities and providing additional places for people to see the films. Obviously, this is a result of the necessary social distance and safety considerations, but it seems like there will be more locations to see a film at the festival than ever before.

Furthermore, while the number of new films being chosen is comparable to past years, the fact that Cannes isn’t taking place in 2020 has forced the festival to contend with the reality that there are now more strong choices than ever before (including Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch,” which was intended to debut last year but now appears primed and ready to go for 2021). In addition to the in-competition films, it looks that there will be at least one important picture in the out-of-competition category that Fremaux is looking forward to.

With Stéphanie Lamome and Christian Jeune, we’ve chosen to concentrate Un Certain Regard on its roots, which means new filmmakers and unique and intimate films that we can only watch in a theatre,” said Fremaux.

So, even though 2019 is building up to be one of the most distinctive Cannes Film Festivals, it looks like there will be plenty of opportunities to see outstanding films and possibly get a peek of what Cannes will look like in the future if you intend on visiting the French event this summer.

A ‘planetary blockbuster’ – The Cannes Film Festival is set to commence on July 6th, 2021.
