A Supernatural Prequel Titled The Winchesters Is In The Works At The CW

A Supernatural Prequel Titled The Winchesters

The Winchesters, a prequel to Supernatural, will focus on Dean and Sam Winchester’s parents. Supernatural, one of the most influential series in the history of the CW, is planning a return with a new incarnation. Jensen Ackles, who will reprise his Dean Winchester role as a narrator of the new series, and Ackles’ wife, Supernatural recurrent guest actor Danneel, are executive producers on the project, which is now in production at the network.

Another Supernatural veteran, former co-executive producer Robbie Thompson, will write and executive produce The Winchesters, which has a script commitment.

John and Mary came before Sam and Dean. The Winchesters are the epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they risked everything to save not only their love but the entire world. Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), The Winchesters is the epic, untold story of the love of how John met Mary and how they risked everything to save not only their love but the entire world.

Jensen and Danneel Ackles executive produce through their business, Chaos Machine Productions, which they founded last autumn with an overall agreement at Warner Bros. Television, which also produces The Winchesters in conjunction with Chaos Machine.

“We knew it wasn’t finished when Supernatural’s 15th season ended. Because, as we say in the series, “nothing really really ends, does it?” Jensen Ackles told Deadline about the situation. “When Danneel and I started Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first narrative we wanted to tell was the origin story of Supernatural or the story of John and Mary Winchester. I’ve always assumed that my character, Dean, would be curious about his parents’ relationship and how it developed. So I’m really excited about the prospect of having him lead us on this adventure.”

With Chaos Machine head of development Renee Reiff, the Ackles have been working on The Winchesters.

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki starred as brothers Dean and Sam Winchester, who hunt demons, ghosts, monsters, and other supernatural entities in Supernatural, which completed its 15-season run last autumn. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith portrayed John and Mary in the series. When Sam was still a baby, Mary was slain by a demon. John becomes a hunter after investigating her death and subsequently passes on his knowledge and talents to his sons. In the first season, John was a recurrent character who died in the Season 2 opener.

The longest-running sci-fi/genre series in American broadcast television history, Supernatural, was developed by Eric Kripke and premiered on the WB. The series had a dedicated fanbase and solid support inside the network, according to fans and CW chairman Mark Pedwoitz. Bloodlines and Wayward Sisters, both launched as backdoor pilots, were the CW’s earlier efforts to establish a Supernatural spinoff.

If The Winchesters go forward, the CW will reintroduce both Supernatural actors; Padalecki is the star and executive producer of Walker, which has been renewed for a second season.

Jensen Ackles will next be seen on film in Season 3 of Amazon’s popular series The Boys, where he will play Soldier Boy. Gersh, Management 360, and Ziffren Brittenham represent him and Danneel. Thompson was a co-executive producer on Supernatural for five years. He most recently worked on Netflix’s Cursed as a co-executive producer. Artists First and Mark Wetzstein represent him.
