Aaron Tayler Johnson has been cast as Kraven the Hunter in the upcoming Sony film It will release January 13, 2023

Aaron Tayler Johnson features the titular Spiderman villain in Sony’s Kraven the Hunter film. Even after collaborating with Marvel Studios to relaunch Spider-Man as part of the MCU, Sony Pictures began formulating plans for further Marvel films centered in their own world. This initiative began with Venom in 2018 and will conclude with the publication of Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius in 2021 and 2022, respectively. However, Sony’s plans for the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters go well beyond this, since numerous additional Spider-Man-related characters are in the works.

Kraven the Hunter is one of several Spider-Man villains for whom Sony has invested time developing a standalone film. Kraven was rumored to be the villain in Spider-Man: No Way Home, thus this came as a surprise. When Sony recruited Triple Frontier’s J.C. Chandor to helm the standalone Kraven film in late 2020, they made headway on the project. With casting calls purportedly suggesting Sony’s interest in a “Joel Kinnaman type,” many fans have continued to fan-cast who could portray the deadly Spider-Man nemesis connected to numerous classic Spidey comic adventures.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson will play Kraven the Hunter, Sony revealed on May 27th. This isn’t his first time portraying a Marvel superhero or a character from a comic book. Kick-Ass was originally played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in two films based on the Mark Millar comic. He was most recently seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron as Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver. Now he’ll portray Sergei Kravinoff, a large game hunter, in a malevolent role. Taylor-Johnson has also agreed to play the role in many films. On January 13, 2023, Kraven the Hunter will be released in cinemas

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is an intriguing option for the role of Kraven in the film, but it raises major concerns about the SPUMC. The writer of Kraven the Hunter previously stated that the film is an adaption of the iconic plot “Kraven’s Last Hunt” and that Spider-Man may appear in it. After speculations that Kraven might appear in Spider-Man 3, several fans assumed this meant Tom Holland’s Peter Parker would appear. There are no indications that Aaron Taylor-Johnson or Kraven are associated in Spider-Man: No Way Home, although Sony might utilise the film to hint Kraven the Hunter’s multiverse plot.
