Alexander Volkanovski vs. Brian Ortega is set to take place at UFC 266 in September

Alexander Volkanovski vs. Brian Ortega After coaching against each other for six weeks in the latest iteration of the long-running reality series

Alexander Volkanovski vs. Brian Ortega After coaching against each other for six weeks in the latest iteration of the long-running reality series, the featherweights are currently watching their season of The Ultimate Fighter develop. Volkanovski and Ortega were supposed to fight at UFC 260 in March, but the defending 145-pound champion caught COVID-19 and was forced to withdraw. After that, Volkanovski needed to recover from the disease’s effects, which led to the UFC booking him and Ortega as coaches on the reality show while they awaited the fight.

After back-to-back victories over previous champion Max Holloway, Volkanovski appears to have selected a date for his championship defense. Ortega will have a second chance to become UFC champion after falling short in his first effort in a battle with Holloway in 2018. Ortega bounced back with a strong performance against Chan Sung Jung, dubbed “The Korean Zombie,” to reclaim the title. If the fight is confirmed for UFC 266, Volkanovski and Ortega will compete in the light heavyweight title battle at the top of the program, which will feature Jan Blachowicz vs. Glover Teixeira.
