Amanda Nunes’ championship defense at UFC 265 has been canceled due to a positive COVID-19 test.

Amanda Nunes, the reigning UFC women’s bantamweight champion who also competes at 145 pounds, has been withdrawn from her title defense against Julianna Pena in the UFC 265 co-main event on Aug. 7 in Houston, Texas.“Lioness” will be rebooked against “The Venezuelan Vixen” at a later date, according to UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell. It’s still too early to say when Nunes will be ready to return because recuperation durations vary from case to case.

The main event of UFC 265 will be a heavyweight interim title fight between Derrick Lewis and Ciryl Gane. With less than a week until fight night, the promoter will almost certainly move an existing match to the co-main event. The bantamweight bout between Jose Aldo and Pedro Munhoz, as well as the welterweight bout between Michael Chiesa and Vicente Luque, would both be good additions, though nothing is finalized at this moment.
