Anthony Mackie is set to star as John Doe in an upcoming Twisted Metal series confirmed by Deadline

The actor, who is best known for his role as Sam Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will star in and executive produces this adaptation of the fighting and driving video game franchise, which launched in 1996 on the original PlayStation.

The plot will be written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the script for Deadpool. It will follow a driver who must partner up with a violent auto thief to deliver a mystery item to a post-nuclear wasteland. Sweet Tooth, the clown who operates an ice cream truck, will be one of the savages who will try to stop him. Mackie will portray John Doe, an amnesiac pilot who first appeared in Twisted Metal: Black.

Asad Qizilbash, director of PlayStation Productions, told that “We are excited to have Anthony Mackie on the project. His ability to unite comedy, action, and drama are perfect for the Twisted world we are creating.”

PlayStation Productions will develop this Live-action series, which will include half-hour segments. The search for potential purchasers will begin soon.
