The greatest non-breakable box office collection will go to Avatar: The Way of Water. The film grossed $53 million on its first day at the domestic box office, and it has already earned over $180 million worldwide, keeping it on track for a $525 million opening weekend.
James Cameron is the director of Avatar: The Way of Water. The film is a sequel to Avatar, which was released in 2009. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Dileep Rao, and Matt Gerald reprise their roles from the original film in this sequel. In an interview with Total Film Magazine, Cameron told “The market could be telling us we’re done in three months, or we might be semi-done, meaning: ‘Okay, let’s complete the story within movie three, and not go on endlessly,’ if it’s just not profitable … We’re in a different world now than we were when I wrote this stuff, even. It’s the one-two punch – the pandemic and streaming. Or, conversely, maybe we’ll remind people what going to the theater is all about. This film definitely does that. The question is: how many people give a s*** now?”
