Some of the voice cast for Marvel’s What If…? was unveiled at Comic-Con in 2019, and more information about the animated series’ star-studded cast continues to emerge. There are some intriguing additions to the latest long list of names, as well as some sad exclusions. We already knew that Iron Man’s Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans would not be giving their voices to the film, but now we learned that Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) will not be joining the cast and that Spider-zombie Man’s hunter Spider-Man will not be voiced by Tom Holland. There are a few names to look forward to, such as Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) and Don Cheadle (War Machine).
Cumberbatch’s inclusion in the lineup will thrill fans even more, given it was already announced that Marvel’s What If… will feature an episode featuring “dark” Doctor Strange. Stephen Strange in Marvel’s What If…? is a Doctor Strange who “discovered magic after the loss of his true love, which led him down a darker road with dark and dangerous magic in an attempt to reverse his history,” according to The Illuminerdi. Rachel McAdams, who portrayed Dr. Christine Palmer in Doctor Strange, is also on the cast list, so we’re guessing she’s the “true love” in question.
Marvel’s What If… debuts in Disney+ on August 11th.
