Benedict Wong reveals his surprise return as Wong, the official trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was released before one month, fans get their first glimpse at the brand new hero, Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), and the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s storyline expansion.

The video also featured a short scene that depicted a fierce cage fight combat between Abomination (Tim Roth), last seen in The Incredible Hulk (2008), and Doctor Strange’s ally and Master of the Mystic Arts, Wong (Benedict Wong).


Benedict has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Doctor Strange (2016) and has appeared in three films (Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame). He has also been cast in the upcoming Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. While it may appear that Wong’s inclusion in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was a foregone conclusion, Wong revealed to an interview during his press tour for the upcoming Sony Pictures Classic film Nine Days with Winston Duke (Black Panther) that he was not always a part of the Shang-Chi family.

When Shang-Chi was happening, I was ecstatic that it was happening, but I was disappointed that I wasn’t a part of it,” Wong explained. “Then came the phone call [from Marvel Studios]. ‘Yes!’ I exclaimed.”


Wong wasn’t permitted to provide any information of his duke-aroo with Abomination or what put him in this predicament, as is customary, but he did express his fervent anticipation for what’s to come.

Wong expressed his delight, saying, “You know, I’m very pleased.” “It was incredible to be seated at a table of Asian brilliance. And I’m a huge admirer of each and every one of them. Tony Leung (In the Mood for Love) is one of my biggest heroes. So [playing Wong] has been a continual source of shocks for me.”

Meanwhile, Benedict Wong will feature with Duke in the supernatural existence thriller Nine Days, which will be released in theatres on July 30. On September 3, 2021, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be released in cinemas.
