Michaela Coel has been cast in the sequel to the film “Black Panther.” Ryan Coogler’s follow-up to his 2018 Marvel film, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” The film is planned to be released in July 2022, but no additional cast members or information about Coel’s character have been revealed.

Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o, Florence Kasumba, and Angela Bassett are likely to return in the sequel to their roles in the original film. The sequel will be directed by Coogler, who also wrote the screenplay.

However, filming of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever began in Atlanta in June, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said that returning to work on the film without star Chadwick Boseman – who died in August 2020 after a four-year struggle with colon cancer – was “extremely painful.”

“It’s obviously incredibly emotional without Chad,” he added. Everyone is, however, extremely thrilled to reintroduce the world of Wakanda to the general public and to the fans. We’ll accomplish it in a way that Chad would be proud of.”

Chadwick’s role as T’Challa, the king of Wakanda, was not to be replaced, according to Feige.
