BLACK PANTHER’S OKOYO –DanaiGurira will be reprising her role of Okoye in multiple future MCU projects. She is confirmed to return in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and she will also be featured as Okoye in an unspecified “origin spinoff series” premiering on Disney+.
It’s unclear if this spinoff is the previously reported Kingdom of Wakanda series or a different project. This deal came to light thanks to Gurira’s lawyer, Jamie Mandelbaum, who was highlighted in the piece for bringing the deal together for the MCU star.
Marvel has a fantastic potential to expand the universe of Wakanda and create additional tales in that setting with the Nation of Wakanda. Given Wakanda’s technical strength, any story set there will have a superhero aspect to it.
Okoye hasn’t had much of an interior life other than being T’Challa’s faithful general and being in a romance with W’Kabi (Daniel Kaluuya), whom she was forced to battle in Killmonger’s usurpation of the throne. So learning her origin story would be a nice amount of backstory for this character, who is currently all about presence. Recently Lupita Nyong’o shared on Working Without Chadwick Boseman on “Black Panther 2”
It’s also unclear if Gurira’s Black Panther spin-off will be distinct from the Wakanda TV show that Black Panther filmmaker Ryan Coogler is producing for Disney+. It’s plausible that they’re the same person, and the Wakanda series will revolve upon Gurira’s Okoye. Due to his five-year TV arrangement with Disney, we can definitely anticipate Coogler to have a hand in the Disney+ project Gurira is starring in.
BLACK PANTHER’S OKOYO – Danai Gurira will be seen in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The Movie will hit the screens on July 8, 2022.
