Bassam Tariq director has been chosen for the Blade reboot, which will feature Mahershala Ali as the ass-kicking Daywalker himself. Bassam, who directed Riz Ahmed’s upcoming feature Mogul Mowgli, is in discussions to direct the Marvel picture. The script, written by Stacy Osei-Kuffour, will revive the half-human/half-vampire Blade inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s chronology.

According to reports. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and star Mahershala Ali “have been meeting with dozens of directors going all the way back to the fall, at one point considering writer-director options,” according to their report, before deciding to hire writer Stacy Osei-Kuffour and find a director elsewhere. Bassam Tariq, the director of the 2013 documentary These Birds Walk and the Riz Ahmed feature Mogul Mowgli, is almost certain to be the chosen one. Don’t worry if you haven’t heard of it; it hasn’t been published in the United States yet. In September, Strand Releasing will release the picture in the United States.

The most recent round of director meetings “began in March and ended in June,” with those who made the final cut making “final presentations” at that period, with Tariq’s “vision that eventually prevailed over all parties.” All that’s left now is for the director to sign on the dotted line. Okay, that’s not all he has to do; he’ll also have to direct the film.
