Bong Joon-ho’s upcoming sci-fi thriller ‘Mickey7’ starring Robert Pattinson production has begun in the UK at Leavesden Studios (Via KFTV). The film is based on Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7. Alongside Pattinson, the film also stars Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette, Naomi Ackie, and Steven Yeun.
Written and directed by Bong Joon-ho, who was best known for Parasite in 2019. Parasite earned Academy Award for Best Picture at the Oscars alongside Best Achievement in Directing, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film. Joon-ho’s works also include Okja, Snowpiercer, and The Host.
Ashton’s novel Mickey7 synopsis follows an Expendable, which the synopsis describes as “a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous — even suicidal — the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal … and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it.”
The film is produced by Bong under his Offscreen banner with Kate Street Pictures’ Dooho Choi co-producing alongside Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner from Plan B.
Robert Pattinson is best known for portraying Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga film series (2008–2012), Christopher Nolan’s spy film Tenet (2020), and recently starred as Batman in Matt Reeves’ The Batman (2022). The film grossed over $770 million and become the fourth-highest-grossing film of 2022
The release date is not yet announced.
