Brian Cox Is Set To Make His Directorial Debut

Succession star Brian Cox to make his directorial debut in the upcoming family drama “Glenrothan“.

The Emmy and Golden Globe winners will return to the topics that made HBO’s Succession such a sensation. The film will be set in Glenrothan, a flourishing distillery town in the Scottish Highlands, and will chronicle the story of two estranged brothers reconciling in their homeland. The last time they talked was on the day of their mother’s burial when the younger of the two fled their Highland home for America after a violent altercation with their father. After forty years apart, the brothers reunite on Scottish soil, in the town where the family company, the Glenrothan Distillery, is located.

According to Deadline, Cox is currently starring in the third season of the hit television series Succession, which follows the dysfunctional Roy family, owners of Waystar RoyCo, a global media, and entertainment conglomerate, as they fight for control of the company amid concerns about the health of the patriarch, played by Cox.

The film is under development with Lionsgate and Nevision, and was created by Scottish actor and writer David Ashton (McLevy) and co-written with screenwriter Jeff Murphy (Hinterland).

Emma Berkofsky, Lionsgate UK’s Head of Development & Acquisitions, is working on the project alongside Neil Zeiger, Nevision’s Creative Director, Scripted, who will also produce. James Cabourne of Nevision will serve as executive producer.
