Chadwick Boseman’s Final Performance Will Be As The Voice Of T’Challa In ‘What If…?’

Chadwick Boseman’s Final Performance

Marvel is on a war footing with the multiverse. The first trailer for What If…, the studio’s new Disney+ animated series that will twist MCU timelines and bend reality around the iconic Avengers, was released today. Some recognizable faces, such as Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, may appear in a fresh animated manner, but something doesn’t seem right about our beloved heroes. That’s because What If… asks an enthralling question: what if significant narrative elements in the Marvel Cinematic Universe were handled differently?

The trailer also reveals Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther’s final outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Boseman reprises his role as T’Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with an animated version of himself making his debut in the series. Eric Killmonger, Shuri, and Okoye, all from the Black Panther universe, join him. In the teaser, Boseman also demonstrates his flexibility as a superhero by portraying Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy.

“A Ravager never flies alone,” he adds, dressed in Star Lord’s spacesuit as he prepares to face a robot army and Yondu’s return (Michael Rooker). The rest of the video replaces the Avengers with the Guardians of the Galaxy in an epic New York fight against Loki, introduces a star-spangled Captain Carter, and even features Howard the Duck.

With just a few new voices, the majority of the MCU’s star-studded ensemble will reprise their roles as animated equivalents in the series. Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Josh Brolin as Thanos, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Karen Gillan as Nebula, and others are among the major returning superheroes. The Watcher, played by Jeffrey Wright, is a figure who monitors the universe but pledges never to meddle. Watch the trailer below
