Based on Sara Shepard’s blockbuster books, the reboot will have a fresh plot and new characters, written by Aguirre-Sacasa and Calhoon Bring. A sequence of terrible events nearly tore the blue-collar community of Millwood apart twenty years ago. In the current day, a group of mismatched teen girls — a brand-new set of Little Liars — are tormented by an unknown Assailant and forced to pay for their parents’ hidden sin two decades ago…as well as their own.
We find ourselves miles away from Rosewood in the dark, coming-of-age horror thriller Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, but inside the current Pretty Little Liars universe – in a brand-new town, with a new generation of Little Liars. Tabby, an aspiring director and horror movie fan, will be played by Kinney. Tabby, like the other Little Liars, has a secret.
Noa, a striving, sarcastic track star, is working hard to bring her life back to normal after a summer spent in juvenile prison, will be played by Reficco.
Kinney recently appeared in Zombies 2, the sequel to the Disney Channel film franchise, and she will reprise her role in the third edition. Kinney was previously seen on Fox’s Lethal Weapon series. Other credits include FX’s American Horror Story: Asylum, Nickelodeon’s The Haunted Hathaways, and Disney’s Girl Meet World. Paradigm, Untitled Entertainment, and Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown & Passman represent Kinney.
Reficco is presently filming the Netflix film Strangers, directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and starring Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke. She recently appeared as Natalie in the Broadway Center Stage production of Next to Normal at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. She previously featured as Young Eva in Sammi Cannold’s Encores! production of Evita at New York City Center. In Latin America, Reficco is most known for playing Kally in the Nickelodeon series Kally’s Mashup, for which she won many Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. CAA and Hansen, Jacobson represent Reficco.
Riverdale was created by Aguirre-Sacasa, who also acts as executive producer/showrunner for The CW. He also executive produced and created The CW’s Katy Keene and Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. All three dramas are based on Archie Comics characters, for which Aguirre-Sacasa is the chief creative officer, and are produced by Warner Bros Television, where he has an overall agreement.
