A sequel for ‘Constantine’ is in development at Warner Bros. it took nearly 17 years to greenlight a sequel for the DC character. Keanu Reeves, who plays the role of John Constantine will be returning to the sequel with the director Francis Lawrence. John Constantine is a character based on DC Comics, he had a chain-smoking cynic with the ability to perceive the true visage of half-angels and half-demons on the human plane. Constantine also has a reputation as being one of the most powerful sorcerers in the world.
The title for the ‘Constantine’ sequel is not yet decided. The film will be directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay written by Akiva Goldsman, who also produce the pic under his Weed Road Pictures, alongside Bad Robot’s J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella.
The original Constantine film was released in 2005. The film stars Keanu Reeves as John Constantine, alongside Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf, Tilda Swinton, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Djimon Hounsou, Gavin Rossdale, and Peter Stormare. It grossed $230.9 million worldwide on a $70–100 million budget. From critics, the film got a lot of mixed reviews but that doesn’t affect the film’s charm.
The film is executive produced by Lorenzo DiBonaventura and Erwin Stoff. Warner Bros Pictures Group co-chairs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy negotiated the deal.
