DAVID GORDON GREEN AND DANNY MCBRIDE REUNITE FOR HBO MAX’S ‘GARBAGE PAIL KIDS’ TV SHOW

The normally humorous duo has teamed up with Josh Bycel (co-showrunner of Hulu’s Solar Opposites) for an animated television adaptation of Topps’ Garbage Pail Kids series at HBO Max, according to WarnerMedia.Along with The Topps Company, Noel Bright and Steven A. Cohen of Tornante TV (BoJack Horseman, Tuca and Bertie), and Brandon James of Rough House Pictures, all three writers/creators will executive produce the series (The Righteous Gemstones).

There are no storyline details yet, but the logline promises that the show, which is based on Green and McBride’s common love of Saturday morning cartoons, will be family-friendly and appeal to people of all ages. Garbage Pail Kids is a gross-out spoof of the renowned Cabbage Patch Kids dolls that date back to 1985. The original trading cards, which were modeled off Wacky Packages, became a short-lived animated series that broadcast internationally in the late 1980s.
