This is a fun one that brings together three movie legends. The Western thriller Dead For A Dollar, directed by famous director and western fan Walter Hill, will feature Oscar winner Christoph Waltz and Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) (The Warriors).

Waltz’s first Western since his famous portrayal as Dr. Schultz in Django Unchained, for which he earned his second Academy Award, will be released this year. He’ll also be playing a bounty hunter this time.

At this week’s Cannes virtual market, Myriad Pictures will begin worldwide sales for the hot bundle. Hill will write and direct the film, which is set in 1897 in the New Mexico Territory of Chihuahua. Max Borlund (Waltz), a well-known bounty hunter, is recruited to locate and return Rachel Price, the politically progressive wife of Nathan Price, a wealthy Santa Fe businessman. Max learns that she has been abducted and is being held for ransom in Mexico by an African American army deserter named Elijah Jones. When Max crosses the border into Mexico, he bumps across his sworn nemesis, expatriate American Joe Cribbens (Dafoe), a professional gambler and sometimes outlaw whom Max had tracked down and imprisoned years earlier.

Borland discovers Rachel Price and Elijah hiding deep in the Mexican desert and learns that Rachel has voluntarily escaped an abusive husband, and the fugitive soldier is her loving companion. Max now has a choice to make: does he return the wife to the guy who hired him over the border, or does he assist Rachel in her quest for freedom and battle off vicious hired shooters and his long-time criminal nemesis, Joe Cribbens?

Jeremy Wall (Gun-Shy), Kirk D’Amico (The Last Word), and Caroyn Mc Masters are producing the film. Matt Harris contributed to the script as well. Hill would be directing for the first time in five years (since Michelle Rodriguez’s The Assignment) and just the third time in 20 years. Bullet To The Head, starring Sylvester Stallone, was released in 2012. The Warriors, Hard Times, The Driver, and the 48 Hours franchise are among the films he is most known for, and he is also a director-producer on the Tales From The Crypt series.
