Diego Calva is ready to join the cast of Damien Chazelle’s ‘Babylon’. In ‘Babylon,’ Diego Calva will portray the role of Manny Torres, an ambitious young man, who was born in the U.S. to Mexican immigrant parents, who is determined to pursue a career in Hollywood in the 1920s.
The newcomer Diego Calva leads an ensemble that includes Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, Samara Weaving, Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li, Olivia Wilde, Tobey Maguire, Katherine Waterston, Phoebe Tonkin, Max Minghella, and Spike Jonze in Damien Chazelle’s ‘Babylon,’ in theaters December 25, 2022.
According to Metaflix, “Babylon” will explore the rise and fall of multiple characters, who are a blend of real and fictional individuals. Brad Pitt’s character is reported to be based on John Gilbert, a silent film star whose career declined when talkies started taking over. Margot Robbie is playing actress Clara Bow, who successfully made the transition to talkies and came to personify the Roaring Twenties. Then there’s Jean Smart, playing what is presumed to be the fictional character of a Hollywood journalist/critic who can make or break careers.
Babylon, written by Chazelle and set in the late 1920s during the transition of the movie industry from silent to talkies, explores the rise and fall of multiple characters and has been labeled “The Great Gatsby on steroids.”
