Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has earned $36M during Thursday night previews at the domestic box office. The global total crossed $121.7M already.

Doctor Strange 2 marked has second-best preview during the pandemic after Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s $50M back in December. The film grabbed the eighth-largest preview performance ever, ranking behind Avengers: Infinity War‘s $39M in 2018.

The film opens in 4,534 theaters, and become the seventh-widest opening ever. The film becomes the 5th highest Thursday night preview ever for IMAX with $4.2M in ticket sales from 410 theaters. On Tuesday, Disney had measured $60M in ticket presales for Doctor Strange 2, behind No Way Home‘s $120M.

Doctor Strange 2 overseas crossed $85.7M for the first two days, 12% behind No Way Home. The film hasn’t been released in China and Russia in its offshore bookings.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is directed by Sam Raimi and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo/Baron Mordo, Benedict Wong as Wong, Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez, with Michael Stuhlbarg as Nicodemus West, and Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer.
