The first trailer for Don’t Breathe 2, the year’s follow-up to the 2016 horror film, has been released by Sony Pictures. Stephen Lang reprises his role as Norman Nordstrom, aka “The Blind Man,” who has moved to a new home with a new daughter figure (Madelyn Grace), but is confronted by familiar forces. The new horror thriller will be released in theatres this August, some years after the events of the previous film. Rodo Sayagues directs the sequel (his feature debut) from a story he co-wrote with Fede lvarez, who also serves as a producer with Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert. Watch the trailer below
Some of the jolting action-horror moments pitting in-over-their-head goons against Norman, which take place in yet another dark, dilapidated house, may feel familiar in this trailer (we gotta get Norman a better realtor). Even in this familiarity, though, there is a great deal of harsh, primitive strength. This primordial force is provided a larger set of stakes from both sides in the newest sections of the film, notably with Grace as the daughter figure Norman always desired. Norman now has someone to defend besides himself, and it appears that the crooks are aware of this. I’ve seen three clips from the film, and this trailer does a fantastic job of hinting at all of the thrills while promising an extension beyond the universe of the previous film (even if it slices up an excellent oner into a succession of short shots here).
