Dune Part Two Is In Development

Dune renewed for part two. In a tweet on Tuesday, Legendary Entertainment announced the news, confirming that the spice will continue to flow on the screen. Though Legendary Pictures is the principal financier and owns the film rights to the book series, Warner Bros. will distribute and assist fund the picture. After “Dune” opened simultaneously in theatres and on HBO Max last week, Legendary is likely to emphasize that the picture will have an exclusive theatrical run. Warner Bros. made a pandemic-era compromise with the unconventional distribution plan, but it caused a stir when it was revealed in 2020.

Villeneuve said to Variety in Toronto Film Festival that, “I wanted at the beginning to do the two parts simultaneously. For several reasons, it didn’t happen, and I agreed to the challenge of making part one and then waiting to see if the movie rings enough enthusiasm… As I was doing the first part, I really put all my passion into it, in case it would be the only one. But I’m optimistic.”

The first installment of the sci-fi epic, which debuted in the United States on October 22, grossed $41 million in its first weekend. This was Warner Bros.’ biggest picture opening of the year, and it demonstrated fans’ enthusiasm to not just watch “Dune,” but also see it on the big screen. The picture has also done well internationally, grossing about $225 million worldwide. Its domestic box office performance was about in line with what Warner Bros. projected when the picture was greenlit, which is noteworthy given how long ago COVID-19 upended the media world.
