Red Queen is set in an alternate near-future America where democracy is replaced by a monarchy led by a group of humans with superpowers who rule with an iron fist over those without powers.

Red Queen, a drama based on Victoria Aveyard’s best-selling YA fantasy novel, has been picked up by Peacock for development. Elizabeth Banks will play a prominent supporting role in the possible series, which she and Max Handelman will executive produce under company Brownstone Prods.

Red Queen is a co-written project by former Arrow showrunner Beth Schwartz and Aveyard from Warner Bros. TV, where Brownstone and Schwartz have overall deals. Universal Television, a part of Universal Company Group, and Brownstone will co-produce alongside the independent studio.

From Susan Rovner’s old studio WBTV, this is one of the first headline purchases for the NBCUniversal division run by Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCU Television, and Streaming.
