The Batman is an edgy, action-packed thriller that depicts Batman in his early years, struggling to balance rage with righteousness as he investigates a disturbing mystery that has terrorized Gotham. Robert Pattinson delivers a raw, intense portrayal of Batman as a disillusioned, desperate vigilante awakened by the realization that the anger consuming him makes him no better than the ruthless serial killer he’s hunting.

The Batman is expected to focus on DC Comics’ famous Dark Knight while unfolding within — but perhaps less directly connected to — the studio’s DC Comics cinematic universe. Until now, much of Riddler’s plan in The Batman has remained unknown. While his intentions – and their connection to Bruce Wayne’s family – remain a mystery, his main purpose has been revealed. Riddler wants to destroy Gotham, and if the trailer is any clue, he’ll be aided by a loyal army of lookalikes. There are also many scenes of Catwoman and Batman fighting these criminals, highlighting another important aspect of the trailer.
