The plot follows Dr. Hari Seldon (Jared Harris from Mad Men) as he forecasts the Galactic Empire’s demise. The official description of the series states, “He and a band of faithful followers go to the distant reaches of the galaxy to create The Foundation in an attempt to restore and protect the future of civilization.” “The governing Cleons – a long series of emperor clones — are enraged by Hari’s accusations, and they believe their grip on the galaxy is eroding as they face the possibility of losing their heritage forever.”
Brother Day, the monarch of the galaxy, is played by Lee Pace (Halt and Catch Fire), with Lou Llobell (Voyagers) and Leah Harvey (Les Misérables) as relative newbies. Terrence Mann (Sense8), Cassian Bilton (Shoal), and Alfred Enoch (How to Get Away With Murder) also feature.
“Asimov’s prophetic science-fiction work has never been more important than it is now, in the decades after the Foundation series first saw print,” Goyer said in a statement. “As a kid, I loved Foundation and hoped to see it on screen someday, but a feature picture didn’t seem big enough to accommodate the ambition… Foundation has always been at the top of my bucket list, and I’m thrilled to be able to help bring it to fruition.”
