Since its announcement in 2020, there has been little information about God of War: Ragnarok and fans will have to wait a little longer than expected because the release date has been pushed back to 2022. However, it was stated that more gamers would now be able to obtain the game because it would soon be available on PlayStation 4.
A Q&A with Herman Hulst, the CEO of PlayStation Studios, on the PlayStation Blog, revealed some fresh insights about the upcoming God of War game. “Right now, we’re working on two extremely large, narrative-driven games: Horizon Forbidden West and the next God of War,” Hulst stated. “And, really, access to performance capture and talent has an impact on both of them.” We believe Horizon will be released during the Christmas season. But that isn’t confirmed yet, and we’re doing all we can to confirm it as fast as possible.” He went on to say, “The project for God of War started a little later.
Kratos’ new adventure was initially promised at the PlayStation 5 demonstration in September 2020. The game was supposed to be out in 2021 at an indeterminate period, but no new information has been released since then. Horizon Forbidden West, on the other hand, received a few more disclosures in the run-up to its release, but it, too, dodged a firm release date. Hulst stated that they are committed to spending the time necessary to offer the level of quality that gamers expect.
“Something has to live with these things,” Hulst remarked. “It can’t be the quality of our titles, and it certainly won’t be our incredible team’s health or well-being.”
Another point of contention for the game was whether or not it would be a cross-gen title. While Horizon Forbidden West has been confirmed for a PS4 release for some time, God of War: Ragnarok did not, despite former game director David Jaffe stating that the sequel will be released on both the PS5 and PS4. However, Hulst stated in the Q&A that the PlayStation 4 was still a priority for the corporation.
The game will be made more widely available as a result, but some PlayStation 5 owners have begun to voice disappointment in the lack of next-gen exclusives. While the cross-gen titles can see drastic visual and performance improvements, the limited technology of the PS4 can hold back these games from truly embracing what the PS5 can do.
Developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, God of War: Ragnarok will release in 2022 for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
