Prime Video released the first trailer for the ‘Goodnight Mommy‘ remake starring Naomi Watts as a bandaged mother who appears to have undergone facial cosmetic surgery. The film releases on September 16 on Amazon Prime Video. Watch the trailer below.
The film is directed by Matt Sobel from a script written by Kyle Warren. Sobel, who most recently contributed episodes to Netflix’s 2021 “Brand New Cherry Flavor,” said he wanted to lean more toward the psychological thriller genre as opposed to horror for this remake. While it may seem unnecessary to some fans to remake a beloved horror favorite that isn’t even a decade old, Sobel saw a fresh path into the material.
When twin brothers (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti) arrive at their mother’s (Naomi Watts) country home to discover her face covered in bandages — the result, she explains, of recent cosmetic surgery — they immediately sense that something doesn’t add up. She sets strange new house rules, smokes in her bathroom, and secretly rips up a drawing they gave her-things their loving mother would never do. As her behavior grows increasingly bizarre and erratic, a horrifying thought takes root in the boys’ minds: The sinking suspicion that the woman beneath the gauze, who’s making their food and sleeping in the next room, isn’t their mother at all.
The film also stars Jeremy Bobb, Crystal Lucas-Perry, and Peter Hermann.
Goodnight Mommy premieres on September 16 on Amazon Prime Video.
