Halina Reijn's 'Instinct' Rights Acquired By A24

A24 has acquired the rights for Halina Reijn‘s psychological thriller ‘Instinct‘. Halina’s previous direction debut is ‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’. According to A24, they are planning for a one-night-only event to release the film in its online screening room on September 22. The tickets will open on September 19.

‘Instinct’ stars Carice Van Houten and Marwan Kenzari. In the film, Carice Van Houten will portray the role of Nicoline, a criminal psychologist who begins work at a prison where one of her new cases, Idris (played by Marwan Kenzari), an apparently reformed sex offender, is preparing for release after five years of confinement. Despite her professional misgivings, Nicoline becomes infatuated with her charismatic, manipulative patient.

The film also stars Marie-Mae, Pieter Embrechts, and Ariane Schluter.

Instinct was screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival. The film was selected as the Dutch entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards, but it was not nominated.
