Halle Bailey Confirmed Her Wrap for Upcoming Adaptation of 'The Color Purple'

Halle Bailey confirms she has wrapped filming her scenes for the musical coming-of-age period drama film ‘The Color Purple‘. Halle shared a new clip on her Twitter post with the cast and crew of the film. watch the clip below.

The Color Purple is adapted for the screen by Marcus Gardley from the 2005 stage musical of the same name, which is in turn based on Alice Walker’s 1982 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. directed by Blitz Bazawule and it is also the second film adaptation of the novel, following Steven Spielberg’s 1985 film adaptation.

The Color Purple follows, a story of the life-long struggles of an African American woman living in the south during the early 1900s. The film stars Fantasia Barrino as Celie Harris, Phylicia Mpasi as Young Celie, Colman Domingo as Mister, Taraji P. Henson as Shug Avery, Corey Hawkins as Harpo, Danielle Brooks as Sofia, H.E.R. as Squeak, Ciara as Nettie, Halle Bailey as Young Nettie, Louis Gossett Jr. as Ol’ Mister, David Alan Grier as Reverend Avery, and Aunjanue Ellis as Mama.

The film is produced by Quincy Jones, Scott Sanders, Steven Spielberg, amd Oprah Winfrey. Warner Bros. Pictures. has acquired the distribution rights.

The Color Purple will hit theaters on December 20, 2023.
