Hawkeye Series director Wants Linda Cardellini's Laura Barton

Hawkeye director Rhys Thomas wants Linda Cardellini’s Laura Barton in future Marvel projects after the finale’s SHIELD reveal her identity. With the end of Hawkeye, Disney+ wrapped up its Christmas story of Clint Barton, Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, Maya, and Kingpin. Clint and Yelena finally end with a peaceful conversation. The series ends with Clint back to his family with Kate and Clint asks to fire the Ronin Suit to Kate.

In the comics, Agent 19 is the alias used by Bobbi Morse before she leaves S.H.I.E.L.D. to become a superhero. Eventually, Bobbi starts using the codename Mockingbird and joins the Avengers. Like Clint, Bobbi has a pretty long history in the comics, and for years the pair were in a relationship.

A big mystery involving the Avengers watch was also resolved in the Hawkeye finale. Laura Barton, Hawkeye’s wife, who first appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron, was revealed to be the owner of the coveted watch. Despite the fact that Cardellini returned for Avengers: Endgame, the MCU films did not have time to explore Laura’s story further. With Cardellini’s short screentime, Hawkeye managed to do so, since Laura Barton’s watch included the SHIELD logo on the back. It supported the widely held belief that she had previously worked for the spy organization, where she was known as Agent 19.

In a recent interview with Marvel, Rhys Thomas said about Linda Cardellini’s Laura Barton:

We’ve seen her over these years as his wife, and there was obviously a desire [to expand her backstory]. We should know more about her. There’s more to her than just staying at home with the kids. It was a fun little thing to tease out over the season and again a nice little payoff that hopefully promises more of a character planted at the end.

While we might not see Laura in action, she’s certainly been busy at home keeping the Christmas spirit alive while Clint’s been away. “One of the things we’re trying to do is really ground [the Bartons] in very pure Americana, like an American Gothic version of Clint and his life,” Maya Shimoguchi, who serves as the art director for the series, tells Marvel.com.  “[The house] is a really beautiful piece of American Americana.”

Laura Barton’s return will be connected to two other characters, It is possible that Laura will show up in Secret Invasion.
