The first teaser trailer from HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl” reboot has finally been released.
The tights and headbands of the past have been replaced with a totally new look for the class of 2021. The new edition of this adolescent classic, created by showrunner Joshua Safran (who previously worked as an executive producer and writer on the original series), transports viewers to an updated Upper East Side of New York.
Despite the lack of storyline information, we do know that the new “Gossip Girl” will take place “nine years after the original blogger’s website went dark.” The series will also look at how social media, as well as the environment of New York, has altered in over a decade. We’ll have to wait and learn who reawakened Gossip Girl and why, but fingers crossed for more voice-over drama. And yes, there is Kristen Bell, the famed blog’s original narrator, contributing her voice once more.
Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak, and Savannah Lee Smith feature in the next series.
The new episodes will continue to draw inspiration from Cecily von Ziegesar’s novels as well as Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s CW series. Whatever happens in the updated season, it’s crucial to remember that this new show will have to beat the graduation episode from the first season, when Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) ditched the mortarboard cap in favor of tying her tassel to her head. Gevinson, it’s your turn! On Thursday, July 8th, the series will premiere.
