The Last of Us season 1 consists of nine episodes, each lasting 1 hour and 25 minutes. The video game adaptation is more like a feature film, which is a bit shocking. The series was created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann and is based on Naughty Dog’s 2013 video game of the same name.

The series stars Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Anna Torv as Tess, Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Nico Parker as Sarah, Murray Bartlett as Frank, Nick Offerman as Bill, Melanie Lynskey as Kathleen, and Storm Reid as Riley Abel.
According to HBO, The Last of Us synopsis follows:
“The series takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”

In an interview with the upcoming issue of SFX magazine (via Gamesradar), Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann said, The Last of Us series will only keep the “very essential” violence. He said, “We need a certain amount of action, or violence, that we could use for mechanics so you could connect with Joel and get into a flow state.” Druckmann added, “Then you would really feel like you’re connected with this on-screen avatar and you’re seeing the world through his eyes.”
