A new look at HBO Max’s ‘His Dark Materials’ season 3 has been revealed by EW. Check out the first look at the heavenly creatures from season 3 below.
Speaking to EW, The showrunner Jane Tranter of the series told “We all know what angels look like, don’t we? We’ve seen them in religious iconography. They’re kind of like us but with wings.” Tranter added, “Then you think about it and go, well, they’re not really like us with wings because they’re nearly always some form of masculine. Philip Pullman’s angels aren’t based on a Christian religion angel. The religious aspects he talks about in the book are from his own imagination. How do they fly? How do they move between worlds? How do they communicate? That was the really big, juicy, magnificent, brilliant privilege that we had to untie that knot.”
“Not that I don’t love Tinkerbell. I think Tinkerbell’s amazing,” she adds. “But these are angels, they’re not Tinkerbells.” She came to reconciliation. The angels would take more corporeal forms when they were down on Earth. “They definitely look different,” Tranter notes. “Their eyes are different, their heads are different, their skins are different, they kind of shimmer. But they have a uniform, if you like, that is not of our world. It’s not them in naked angel form.”
In ‘His Dark Materials’ season 3, the angels will now take more physical forms. Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Justice League), Simon Harrison (Endeavour), and Chipo Chung (Into the Badlands) will portray Balthamos, Baruch, and Xaphania, respectively, some of the noteworthy rebel angels from this story. “All the makeup was insane,” Keen recalls. “I remember being on set with Chip Chung and I literally could not look anywhere else. It was creepy. I couldn’t stop staring at them cause they looked so sick.”
‘His Dark Materials’ season 3 release date is TBA.
