George Martin said there will be 17 dragons. also stated,

I always thought it was a good story, I like it a lot, so I can’t wait to see it come to life on screen. And of course, I can’t wait for the dragons to arrive! Obviously, I love dragons. We used to have three in Game of Thrones, but now we have 17. And hopefully, each of them has its own personality, they will be instantly recognizable when you see them, the colors and all, because dragons have personalities in the books, and it will be great to see them in a live-action project. And then there are the dragon knights. It is all very beautiful.

The series will debut in 2022 on HBO Max.
