Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal of Black Panther in popular culture has come to define the character. These days, it’s impossible to think of T’Challa without thinking of how the actor’s 2018 film role defined the character for generations of Marvel fans. Christopher Judge, who is eternally associated with the God of War gaming franchise as the thunderous voice of Kratos, is fully aware of this. It’s also why, when a new chance presented itself, he was hesitant to take on Black Panther.
Christopher Judge will play King T’Challa in Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers video game. He’ll make his first appearance in War for Wakanda, a forthcoming DLC narrative extension set to release in August. In a recent interview, Christopher Judge told that “There are many Black Panthers, but I really didn’t believe that anyone should ever do T’Challa again [after Boseman]. The actual talks proceeded and, basically, I wound up doing it because my mother and my children said if I didn’t do it, they would disown me.” A bellow of laughter in his recognizably resonant timbre erupts at that thought.
Marvel’s Avengers: Black Panther — War for Wakanda Expansion will be available in August 2021.
