Into the Spider-Verse 2: Issa Rae has been cast as Spider-Woman

Issa Rae is stepping into the Spider-Verse for the first time. Issa Rae, who starred in HBO’s critically acclaimed comedy-drama Insecure, has joined the voice cast of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2. Rae joins Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld, who are reprising their roles as Miles Morales, aka Spider-Man, and Spider-Gwen, respectively, as the first new addition to the cast.

Plot information is being kept buried in the circuits of a super-collider, but the film will continue to showcase a diverse cast of Spider-characters from Marvel Comics‘ past and present. Rae will play Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman, according to insiders. The project’s acknowledged authors will include Phil Lord and Chris Miller, as well as David Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).

Lord and Miller, as well as Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Christina Steinberg, are all returning as producers. Alonzo Ruvalcaba is a co-producer of the film.

The sequel is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson. Peter Ramsey, one of the previous film’s filmmakers, returns back as an executive producer.
