Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is getting worse with every solo release they made. With the reviews from Morbius, it is confirmed sony is ruining the entire Spider-Man Universe. In March 2019, a Sony Pictures Entertainment presentation referred to the “Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters” (SPUMC). They announced various Spider-Man films and animated Spider-Verse films as well as Sony’s own live-action Marvel adaptations. Before the presentation Sony already started to develop the solo films Venom, which was debuted in 2018 and widely criticized with poor reviews and followed by its sequel titled Venom: Let There Be Carnage debuted in 2021 with mixed reviews.
Morbius was delayed more than 6 times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the beginning of January 2022, the film was delayed to April 1, 2022, due to the box office success of Spider-Man: No Way Home which Sony hoped would continue throughout early 2022. No Way Home become Sony’s most profitable movie of all time with 610M net profit.
Sony is currently developing two live-action adaptations of Aaron Taylor-Johnson starring Kraven the Hunter and Dakota Johnson starring Madame Web, which is slated for a 2023 release. We can hope Sony will make a good decision and collaborate with Marvel, Instead of garbage films.
Morbius will hit theaters on April 1, 2022.
