The runtime for Suicide Squad has been set. Director James Gunn confirmed on social media that DC’s newest film will last for two hours and 12 minutes (132 minutes). Gunn said, ” “I scripted, shot, and edited the greatest film I could, and it came to this length. No one expected it to go on for so long.” That duration includes a modern-day superhero movie staple: at least one post-credits scene.

James Gunn did not divulge information about what would be included after the credits have rolled, he did confirm that there will be one on Twitter. “What matters most to me,” the filmmaker remarked.

I know what you’re thinking: how does The Suicide Squad stack up against its DC counterparts in terms of running time? While it doesn’t quite match Zack Snyder’s Justice League’s epic four-hour length – and a longer runtime isn’t always a sign of quality — it’s intriguing to see how it compares to other films.

It’s a bit shorter than Wonder Woman 1984 (151 minutes) and Aquaman (143 minutes), but it’s the same length as Shazam! – 132 minutes. Suicide Squad, which director David Ayer said was “torn to shreds” by the studio, is only a few minutes shorter, clocking in at 123 minutes.

Meanwhile, James Gunn has a full career ahead of him. He’s presently working on a sequel to Suicide Squad. The John Cena-led Peacemaker series is slated to premiere on HBO Max, and we wouldn’t rule out a Suicide Squad post-credits sequence previewing the prequel TV series in some way, shape, or form.

Let’s not forget that the filmmaker is back in Marvel’s good graces. The director previously left Marvel Studios in a contentious manner but is now set to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3. The threequel, which is part of Marvel Phase 4 and due out on May 5, 2023, is expected to be James Gunn’s final installment in the franchise.

The Suicide Squad will be released on July 30 in the United Kingdom, and on August 6 in cinemas, and on HBO Max in the United States.
