Jennifer Lopez Is Set to Executive Produce ‘Cinderella’

Jennifer Lopez will executive produce a limited series based on Rodgers & Hammerstein’s ‘Cinderella.’ Lopez will produce under her Nuyorican Productions, Skydance Television, and Concord Originals.

In a statement Bill Bost, President of Skydance Television said “The story of Cinderella is as timeless now as ever,” he added, “This aspirational story of romance, unconventional families, and the surprising power of wishes has inspired audiences around the world for centuries, and we are thrilled to be working with Jennifer, Rachel, Concord, and The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization to bring our fresh take to the screen.”

Cinderella is the only Rodgers and Hammerstein musical written for television. It was originally broadcast live in color on CBS on March 31, 1957, as a vehicle for Julie Andrews, who played the title role. The broadcast was viewed by more than 100 million people. It was subsequently remade for television twice, in 1965 and 1997. The 1965 version starred Lesley Ann Warren and Stuart Damon. The 1997 version starred Brandy Norwood in the title role, with Whitney Houston as the fairy godmother. Both remakes add songs from other Richard Rodgers musicals.
