Johnny Depp’s $50 million Defamation closing arguments against ex-wife Amber Heard kicked off on Friday after six weeks of trial proceedings. Depp is suing Heard for $50 million over a 2018 Washington Post op-ed in which she wrote about her experience with domestic abuse. Heard has filed a $100 million defamation countersuit against Depp in 2020, which is ongoing.
Depp sued Heard for $50 million in Virginia’s Fairfax County Circuit Court in December 2018. Johnny Depp’s lawyers asked a jury Friday “to give Mr. Depp his life back” by finding his ex-wife, Amber Heard, guilty of libel.
Camille Vasquez told the jury in closing arguments that Heard “ruined his life by falsely telling the world she was a survivor of domestic abuse at the hands of Mr. Depp.”
“There is an abuser in this courtroom, but it is not Mr. Depp,” Vasquez said.
