The “Joker 2” will begin filming in 2023. With the tremendous success of Todd Phillips‘ Joker in 2019, Warner Bros. confirmed to have a sequel for the film with Joaquin Phoenix. According to Heroic Hollywood, Warner Bros. has officially received the first draught of the film’s script and the production will begin in 2023. Plot details are being kept in a cell at Arkham Asylum.
The film was directed by Todd Phillips and written by Phillips and Scott Silver. The film follows a failed comedian Arthur Fleck seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks — the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he’s part of the world around him. Isolated, bullied, and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as The Joker. starring Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.
In an interview with The Playlist, the director Todd Phillips said:
“I mean, I dunno. From when we were shooting, we started to —you know, uhh, this is an interesting guy. There are some things we could do with this guy and could [explore] further. But as to whether we actually will? I don’t know. When a movie does $1 billion and costs $60 million to make, of course, it comes up. But Joaquin and I haven’t really decided on it. We’re open,” he explained. “I mean, I’d love to work with him on anything, quite frankly. So who knows? But it would have to have a real thematic resonance the way this one did, ultimately being about childhood trauma and the lack of love, and the loss of empathy.”
The release date is not yet updated from Warner Bros.
