‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ starring Joaquin Phoenix & Lady Gaga is set to include “complicated” musical sequences. According to Warner Bros. Discovery, ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ is described as more like ‘A Star is Born’ than ‘In the Heights.’
Variety reported that ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ reportedly has a budget of $150M. Joaquin Phoenix and Todd Phillips will receive a paycheck of $20M while Lady Gaga gets $10M for her role. The first sequel of Joker (2019) grossed $1.07 billion worldwide.
Several other DC properties have been in development as feature films, some for years — “Wonder Woman 3” (with Patty Jenkins directing), “Superman” (with Ta-Nehisi Coates writing), “Zatanna” (with Emerald Fennell writing), and “Static Shock” (with Michael B. Jordan producing) — but there haven’t been any substantive updates on these films since news of the first broke.
Joker: Folie à Deux is directed by Todd Phillips, who co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role alongside Lady Gaga, Uma Thurman, Dante Pereira-Olson, and Jack Nicholson.
Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Films, and Joint Effort, in association with Bron Creative and Village Roadshow Pictures, and distributed by Warner Bros.
