Kristen Stewart Received A Standing Ovation For Her Performance As Princess Diana In ‘Spencer’

Kristen Stewart Received A Standing Ovation

Kristen Stewart has pulled off one of the most spectacular onscreen changes of the year, judging by the enthusiastic reception at the Venice Film Festival premiere of “Spencer” on Friday afternoon.

The Venice audience erupted in applause and cheers as the dramatic film, billed as a “fable” based on actual events, came to a close, giving Stewart a three-minute standing ovation.

At the end of the film, Stewart was teary-eyed as she hugged director Pablo Larran (who also helmed “Jackie,” starring Natalie Portman as Jackie Kennedy after JFK’s assassination).

In “Spencer,” Stewart portrays Diana over the course of three days at the House of Windsor with the royal family during a tumultuous Christmas break.

The video focuses on Diana’s position as a doting mother to William and Harry, with her giving them Christmas presents, sneaking them out of bed for a game, and taking them to a British KFC drive-through for a genuine dinner.

While Stewart’s character of Queen Elizabeth II in “The Queen” will undoubtedly be compared to Emma Corrin’s depiction in “The Crown,” it also has a lot in common with Helen Mirren’s Oscar-winning performance as Queen Elizabeth II in “The Queen.”
