Leos Carax’s Annette will be released by MUBI in the UK on September 3.

Annette will be released by MUBI purchased all UK and Irish rights to Leos Carax’s Annette, which will premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival on July 6, a day before its French release. The distributor and streamer have planned September 3 for a theatrical release in the United Kingdom and Ireland. This is Mubi’s second recent Cannes deal, following the acquisition of Paul Verhoeven’s Benedetta last month.

Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard appear in the long-awaited musical drama, which also stars Simon Helberg (The Big Bang Theory, Florence Foster Jenkins) and Belgian singer-songwriter Angèle in her acting debut.

Annette is a modern Los Angeles drama about Henry (Driver), a stand-up comedian with a sharp sense of humor who falls in love with Ann (Cotillard), a world-renowned opera soprano. The two become passionate and gorgeous couples when they are in the spotlight. Their lives are flipped upside down with the arrival of their first child, Annette, a strange little girl with an extraordinary destiny.

Ron Mael and Russell Mael of the pop and rock group Sparks wrote the screenplay, and the film also incorporates songs by Sparks and music producer Marius de Vries (La La Land, Bohemian Rhapsody, Moulin Rouge).

Charles Gilibert, Paul-Dominique Win Vacharasinthu, and Driver are the producers of Annette. Kinology is in charge of sales outside of the United States.

Kelly Reichardt’s First Cow, Ben Sharrock’s two-time BAFTA nominee Limbo, Michel Franco’s New Order, Ninja Thyberg’s Sundance blockbuster Pleasure, and Céline Sciamma’s latest film Petite Maman are among Mubi’s current and planned theatrical releases in the UK and Ireland.
