The star of “Elementary” and “Why Women Kill” will play Kalypso, the sister of Helen Mirren’s villainous character Hespera, in the DC Comics adaptation “Shazam! Fury of the Gods.”The core filmmaking team from 2019’s “Shazam!” returns for the sequel, including Zachary Levi as the titular superhero Shazam! and Asher Angel as his adolescent alter ego Billy Batson, in addition to Liu and Mirren. From a screenplay by Henry Gayden, David F. Sandberg returns to direct the film. The Safran Company, founded by Peter Safran, is a production company.
Liu has worked on a number of big franchises. Liu’s film career took off after she debuted on “Ally McBeal,” with “Charlie’s Angels” in 2000 and “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” in 2003. She’s also appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill” films, the Oscar-winning musical “Chicago,” and the DreamWorks Animation’s “Kung Fu Panda” films as Viper.
