Lupita Nyong’o has spoken out about the emotional difficulties she faced while filming Black Panther 2 without Chadwick Boseman. In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, the Oscar winner discussed how Boseman’s untimely death has influenced her feelings regarding returning to Wakanda. Nyong’o discusses everything from her childhood to her role as an executive producer and voice actress on Super Semi, a YouTube animated kids series. When asked about Black Panther 2, Lupita Nyong’o stressed the long shadow that Boseman’s death has cast.
Both Martin Freeman, who is reprising his role in the film, and writer/director Ryan Coogler have echoed Nyong’o’s sentiments. On a personal and professional level, Coogler, who had grown close to Boseman during the development of Black Panther, felt the loss. This, according to Nyong’o, makes him a sympathetic leader who can guide the team through the tough waters of continuing without Boseman.
